Throw Back Thursay, Driver Information ; Jamie McMurray

James Christopher McMurray was born on June 3rd 1976 in Joplin Missouri. Jamie and his wife, Christy (Futrell) McMurray have two children, 1 boy and 1 girl, both under the age of 8 at the time of this posting.

Jamie spent a lot of his childhood doing what many Cup drivers do -Kart Racing, and Late Model Stock Car racing.  Even after Jamie was in NASCAR racing, he chose to return to World Karting Association in 2007, and races annually at the World Karting Association’s Daytona KartWeek in late December. Jamie currently drives the No. 1 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Chip Ganassi Racing with crew chief Matt McCAll.

Jamie started racing in the NASCAR Truck Series in 1999 and continued in 2000, and 2001. In 2002 Jamie moved to the Busch Series full time and was slated to run 7 Cup races for Chip Ganassi. However when Sterling Marlin fractured a vertebra in an accident Jamie stepped in to drive for Sterling. Jamie’s 1st race was rather uneventful, as with any rookie driver. However in his 2nd race while filling in for Marlin, Jamie led 96 of 100 laps at Charlotte and took the #40 Coors Light car to victory lane!

In 2003 Jamie won the Rookie Of The Year in the Wiston Cup Series by 37 points over Greg Biffle. Jamie has also won a race in every NASCAR top 3 series, putting him in company with only 20 other drivers. Jamie has been employed by top racing teams coming from Chip Ganasi, Roush Racing, and and then Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, and Chip Ganasi Racing with Felix Sabates. Lets just say that Chip Ganasi believes strongly in Jamie McMurray.

Jamie has won multiple high level races, such as a Daytona 500, an Indianapolis 400, a Charlotte Motor Speedway 500, the 2013 Sprint Cup Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Jamie has been known for being very emotional and thanking the power of prayer after every win.  Jamie has also won 10 Pole Positions in his Cup Carrier.

Jamie has also had many top 5 and top 10 finishes, and his carrier seems to be far from finished, so watch for that #1 car to come home in the #1 position with a checkered flag.
